Riot Symphony

Music & Direction by Conor Mitchell
Libretto by Sophie Scholl & Pussy Riot

“say goodbye to the regime”
(pussy riot)

In an explosive world premiere, the award-winning Belfast Ensemble and Ulster Orchestra join forces again to premiere Conor Mitchell’s Riot Symphony.

Described as ‘a celebration of protest!’ this thrilling Belfast original transformed the Ulster Hall, fusing specially commissioned video design with the sampled vocals of Russian punk band Pussy Riot and the subversive texts of 1940s Munich student Sophie Scholl - sung by two of Northern Ireland’s rising stars of the opera world and performed with the Ulster Orchestra.

“at every time of greatest danger, people have risen up!”
(White Rose Movement, leaflet four)
